"The Pursuit of Happyness" is a biographical drama film directed by Gabriele Muccino and released on December 15, 2006. The movie tells the inspiring true story of Chris Gardner, a struggling salesman who faces numerous hardships in his quest for a better life for himself and his young son.
The film depicts Gardner's struggles as a homeless single father in San Francisco during the early 1980s. Despite his difficult circumstances, he remains determined to provide for his son and achieve his dreams. He takes on an unpaid internship at a brokerage firm, enduring countless setbacks and rejections along the way. Gardner's perseverance and work ethic eventually pay off, leading to a successful career in finance and a better life for himself and his son.
The film is a heartwarming and inspiring tale of triumph over adversity. Will Smith delivers a remarkable performance, capturing the pain and struggles of a man who is determined to succeed despite overwhelming odds. Jaden Smith is equally impressive in his role as Gardner's son, conveying the innocence and vulnerability of a child who is forced to grow up too soon.
“Don't ever let someone tell you, you can't do something. Not even me. You got a dream, you got to protect it. People can’t do something themselves, they want to tell you you can’t do it. You want something, go get it. Period.” This is my favourite line from this movie as it fills me with a sense of determination and strength. These words remind me that I am capable of achieving anything I set my mind to and that I should never let anyone else's doubts or negativity hold me back. If you want a feel-good movie, then "The Pursuit of Happyness" is a great choice. Although the beginning of the movie may be disappointing as it shows the difficult situation that Chris Gardner faces, as the movie progresses, you can't help but feel inspired by his achievements. This type of movie never gets old and is still entertaining to watch, even though it was made in 2006.
