"Boston Strangler" is a historical crime drama movie that was written and directed by Matt Ruskin. The film was released on March 17, 2023, and tells the true story of a serial killer who terrorized Boston in the 1960s. Keira Knightley stars as the journalist who broke the story, alongside a talented cast that includes Carrie Coon, Alessandro Nivola, Chris Cooper, David Dastmalchian, and Morgan Spector.
The movie "Boston Strangler" follows the true story of reporter Loretta McLaughlin, who investigates a series of brutal murders of older women in Boston in the 1960s. Despite facing rampant sexism and resistance from law enforcement, Loretta and her colleague Jean Cole continue their investigation and uncover a pattern that leads them to dub the killer "the Boston Strangler." As the case unfolds, they discover that the Boston Police Department is mishandling the investigation and overlooks similar murders in other cities, leading them to suspect that there may be more than one killer at large. The film delves into the investigation, the killer's confession, and the shocking conspiracy behind the case.
I was thoroughly impressed by this movie that beautifully portrayed the unsolved case of the Boston Strangler. The story, based on real events, was intriguing, and the credit goes to the filmmakers for their excellent storytelling and acting. As I watched the movie, I felt like I was solving the mystery myself, analyzing the clues provided on the screen to draw my conclusions of my own. I was thoroughly impressed with the attention to historical detail in the movie. From the costumes to the sets, everything felt authentic and transported me back to the early 1960s. The portrayal of the rampant sexism in the workplace and society in general was both shocking and thought-provoking. I also appreciated the way the movie depicted the investigative process, showing the obstacles faced by journalists in uncovering the truth.
An 7 out of 10 from me.
